Oscar Report

I have tried to resist....

...but I can't.

I must post about it.

The Oscars.

Now, I usually love the Oscars, but this year was ridiculous. I am so sick of Hollywood (aka Liberal Actors) strutting around and spouting off about how they are the voice of the people.

Ummm….how many gay cowboys do you know?

….or what about sympathetic terrorists?

….or effeminate gay writers?

….or racist cops?

Okay, maybe we all know a racist cop, but seriously….what is up with the nominated movies?

Did anyone even see any of them?

And I am even afraid to get started about the original song category, but here goes:

The pimp song won??!!! The Academy actually voted for that song to win??!!! Why?

Why?

Why?

Okay, stop asking ‘why’ Sherri.

Anyway, not only did that song suck, it was an embarrassment.

And what about the “In the Deep” song from Crash?

The set was full of burning cars that I assume were meant to simulate an accident and all the people were moving in slow motion. Instead of creating the intended drama the designers of this piece only succeeded in reminding me of the ‘Dawn of the Dead’ movie I saw when I was seventeen. I was giggling shouting out, “Brains. Brains!!!” in my living room.

But I was happy that Reese Witherspoon won. That was about it.

Good Lord woman, CHILL! Not all actors are liberal (okay, most of them are - and I'm married to one). But Clooney did NOT say he's the voice of the people. He said he was "removed" from reality and was happy about it - not the same thing. And let's face it - I couldn't tell you how that Dolly Parton song went but I can't get "it's hard out there for a pimp" outta my head.

And I agree about the "Crash" song. F'ed up. What movie did you want nominated? - I honestly don't ever see anything - no life.

Well, I think Walk the Line was AWESOME!

And I didn't mention George Clooney when I said actors thought they were the voice of the people. But regardless of what Mr. Clooney says, I can't stay mad at him....he's just too good looking and charismatic. YUM.

I didn't even turn on the TV Sunday night.

Hollywood is SOOOOOO far out of touch with reality... It's as if they're trying to create their own reality (If you believe it hard enough, it will be true!!! Now tap your red ruby slippers together three times...)

I agree with ya 110%, sistah! I thought it was horrible (except for Reese). The "song" (I use that term verrrry loosely) was appalling and is a strong indication of how skewed Hollywood really is. No wonder the ratings were down -- I think mainstream America is sick of having that agenda shoved down its collective throat.

I watched the Oscars and thought they were pretty boring. I did actually like Dolly Parton's performance and hoped she would win. How come Alanis' song from Narnia wasn't nominated?
I know I am commenting on a Republican's blog but I also am a fan of John Stewart and I expected more from him. I thought the fake ads for best actress were pretty funny (Keira Knightly's cheeks were brushed with "God Dust").
Overall...boring.

BTW, I should back up and say that my husband is "an actor" but is actually registered as an independent. And the only thing either one of us would shove down anyone's throat is a beer. Cheers!

I didn't watch and I don't have anything to say about it, but I just wanted to comment anyway.

So there.

Hollywood claims to know they're out of touch. The response? George Clooney says "I'm proud we're out of touch" and proceeds to ramble about the Oscar to Hattie McDaniel, and other non-sequitors.

What the Hell?

They don't even know what they don't know they should know about any more. Y'know?

The stage presentation of "In The Deep" made me think of "Dawn of the Dead", until I realized that the spirit of it was more like "Shaun of the Dead". Funnier.

And then I thought about open flame on the stage and didn't Whitesnake or somebody have a concert where hundreds of people DIED because of open flame that got out of control?

I mean, I had just recovered from the revulsion I experienced seeing Dolly Parton (who is wonderful, by the way...tremendously talented and accomplished musician) perform on stage and thought she looked like a marionette.

But, "It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp"...to have Ludacris try to soften the edge of the pun while introducing the song just pissed me off...like I'm not smart enough to figure it out on my own, or that I might be in the company of people who are old enough to get the reference but not smart enough to figure it out on their own...and then they changed the lyrics to keep from having to bleep every other word. "Witches jumped ship?" HUH? (I love TiVo...)

Still it led to the second best line of the night: "For those of you keeping score, Martin Scorcese: zero -- Three 6 Mafia: one."

The BEST line of the night came after the tribute to activist films: "...and none of those issues were EVER A PROBLEM AGAIN! On the bright side, Susan Sarandon just send us a check for $50,000."
